Carolina Voices Programs and Scholarships

All donations to Carolina Voices help to continue the organization’s commitment to musical excellence and the enrichment, education and entertainment of our diverse community.  You can help support our mission by designating your donation to our General Operating Fund, or to one of the following specialty projects and scholarships of Carolina Voices:

The Singing Christmas Tree Sneak Preview

For more than twenty years, Carolina Voices has invited up to 200 Charlotte social service agencies and their clients to a “Sneak Preview” of our signature concert, The Singing Christmas Tree. Those attending are individuals who have various physical, financial and social challenges and who might never have an opportunity to see a holiday performance such as the Tree.  The Sneak Preview is a free presentation to invitees and is traditionally held the night before opening (dress rehearsal). The Sneak Preview illustrates how non-profits, along with help from our giving partners, can truly make a difference in our community.  If you would like to support this program, please indicate so on the donation page, under “You may also designate your gift to go to a particular choral group or funding program of Carolina Voices.”  A drop down menu will appear that allows you to select The Singing Christmas Tree Sneak Preview.  Click here to go to the Make a Donation page.

Carolina Kids’ Voices Camp Scholarships

Now entering its sixth year, Carolina Kids’ Voices is Carolina Voices’ summer show choral camp experience for rising first through rising eighth graders.  The program is designed to nurture children's innate love of performance, helping them develop confidence, pride, discipline and self-esteem through music, movement, arts and crafts.  Cost for one week of camp is $165.  With support from our donors, we have given out more than 60 scholarships.  Please help us to continue offering this program to deserving students. If you would like to support this program, please indicate so on the donation page, under “You may also designate your gift to go to a particular choral group or funding program of Carolina Voices.”  A drop down menu will appear that allows you to select Carolina Kids’ Voices Camp Scholarships.  Click here to go to the Make a Donation page.

Shirley Wang Legacy Fund

Shirley Wang was a beloved singer with Carolina Voices for 17 years. Always the consummate singer, performer and ideal member, Shirley was named the“Angel” for the 2009 Singing Christmas Tree and performed in numerous Carolina Voices programs over the years.  Shirley was a talented musician and as early as age four, she was playing the piano.  She went on to attend the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts Summer Program and perform with the State Orchestra, as well as serve as principal cellist for her school orchestra and as a student conductor for the school choir. At Oberlin College, she was accepted by the conservatory for piano lessons and sang in the a cappella group, “Nothing But Treble.”In memory of Shirley, whose kindness, resolve, talent and dedication touched so many lives, Carolina Voices created The Shirley Wang Legacy Fund in 2016.  A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a college bound high school senior who has plans to continue his or her music education.  Shirley is and always will be deeply missed. If you would like to support this program, please indicate so on the donation page, under “You may also designate your gift to go to a particular choral group or funding program of Carolina Voices.”  A drop down menu will appear that allows you to select Shirley Wang Legacy Fund.  Click here to go to the Make a Donation page.

Crowley Scholarship Fund

The Crowley Scholarship Fund, named after past board chair and Carolina Voices’ supporter, Dennis Crowley, was created in 2011 to help singers in the organization meet their financial obligations.  Singers are asked to pay $65 per semester to help cover the costs of sheet music, rehearsal space and directors’ fees.  The Crowley Scholarship Fund helps pay for some or all of the dues for those singers requiring financial assistance.   If you would like to support this scholarship program, please indicate so on the donation page, under “You may also designate your gift to go to a particular choral group or funding program of Carolina Voices.”  A drop down menu will appear that allows you to select Crowley Scholarship Fund.  Click here to go to the Make a Donation page.
